The key concept in power scaling is drive compensation. This slide is intended to offer a brief explanation. Think of an amplifier in terms of it's functional blocks. The relationship between the pre-amp and the power amp is where we are focused in this discussion. Understanding the relationship between drive compensation and the scale control puts any desired tone at your finger tips.

This conversation can be made further complex as we consider pre or post phase inverter drive compensation/master volume architectures. Not to mention if the phase inverter itself is scaled.
